Professional development for the staff members begins when a new member joins the team. Besides, in order to track the development of a person, they all have the existing development plan in place. Planning should not take place only after a staff member is found ineffective or needs improvement. Since each staff have their own professional development plan, each has to be reviewed on an ongoing basis through the year to know the development and to find out if there is a need to help the staff better, there is also what we call yearly performance review period to know each weakness and strength.

The very first thing to do is to request a self-assessment. This is the moment of truth from the beginning of the process, this is the process that will give you key points to know the strengths and weaknesses of each staff. Here, you will know their interests, skills, values, and personality. With the self-assessment process, you will know their skills, career opportunities what they are best at, knowledge, and interests. Also, these resulted to measure their capabilities to fit in their position.

Develop the assessment of the individual's skills level

From the assessment's results, their work records, and from the observations, staff member's skills level can be determined. Technical skills, social skills, aptitudes, and attitudes, these things can be developed with the help of the professional development plan following its steps.

Assess the department and organization's needs

In maintaining the professionalism of each staff, do not forget to look at them as a whole and not just for individual progress. It is true that each of them has self needs progress but as a whole or group as well. In order to succeed in professional development, the organization also has a need. And like the individual, each need has to be satisfied. With those needs, great things such as the big goals, department goals, and team goals can easily be succeeded.

Explore development opportunities with the staff member

Exploration is really a part of growing or developing. There are opportunities in exploration that we will miss if we just stand only on one side. Exploring the opportunities means that there is a dedicated professional development training program and resources for the staff that supports needs.

Record and analyze the staff member's progress

Recording is a tactic done to know that changes and what has been done. Collecting feedback from eh staff member is also part of the recording as well as how a member is doing well, building on their skills, correcting any problems that may arise, and helping them improve new abilities that will help them in their personal development that will surely be part of their organizational outcomes. Professional development does not only works for the individual but surely works for the organization where each staff has to do better together.
